I would love to write something less mundane than the following, but this week was a blur of work and fun and now I'm feeling completely empty-headed. Just as well, then, that I have next week off.

Tomorrow we're heading north to visit my family for a few days. I'd like to think that this means lots of flopping around the house, reading papers & books and playing with my nephew, but characteristically I already seem to have inadvertently worked up something of an agenda. It's quite likely that relaxation isn't on the cards until we return to London towards the end of the week, so here are a couple of disjointed bits of information before I forget.

I finally bought my digital camera (Canon IXUS 330) and I've been playing around with it for a few days but without enough time to really get to grips with it. That's definitely one of my objectives for the week.

On Thursday evening a small group of us went to a fabulous North African (Moroccan, Algerian, Tunisian) restaurant called Azou, half-way between Hammersmith and Chiswick. (I took the camera and learnt my first lesson about using it - check that the battery is fully charged...) The food was absolutely wonderful and the place is unreservedly recommended. It's a small place, but nicely decorated. Our waitress was Ukrainian. God, I love London.

All throughout the week I've been thinking "must write about that" and now I can't think of a thing to say. No doubt it will all come back eventually. I'll be taking the trusty laptop up north with me, though I don't know how many opportunities I'll get to use it.

The sun is shining, it's approaching 2pm, I'm still in my dressing gown and our back garden is full of cats. We're babysitting in four hours, so it's time to go and seize the day. Tomorrow, time to start recharging my own batteries.

That "must write about that" feeling..... Well, I don't know you so I'll try not to get to personal but it will get worse as you get older. I have tried several solutions:
1. Carry a dictaphone, I know, its a bit over the top.
2. A simple note book (not quite as bad as the dictaphone as you can pretend you've just rembered something for the shopping list). What would be good is a quick way of texting to a reminder on your laptop...there might even be something likes this?
3. Keep repeating the thought you had over and over to yourself.

Option 3 has the advantage of not requiring any pre-planning which can be dashed by the memory problems one is trying to counter in the first place. It does, however, have a couple of drawbacks.... firsly people will think you're talking to yourself (well, you are) and that you are therefore a mad homocidal maniac. Secondly, it doesn't work. I came out of Sainsbury's today saying "Plate Captain". I even wrote it down when I got home. I have absolutely no idea why.

PS: I trust there'll be updates on the Ixus, I'm thinking of getting a little digicam from that sort of price range.

Cheers...

1 isn't as mad as it sounds. I have a Pocket PC PDA that can record short voice notes and I keep thinking that maybe I should carry it around more regularly so I can record reminders for myself.

I too have a PDA (not with a voice recorder, though). When I bought it, I thought, "This'll be great for writing random notes for blogging when I'm on the tube or on the bus or just - anywhere!"

Have I used it?

Have I buffalo.

Vaughan has utterly disappointed me. Months ago he made a passing comment about using a Palm to blog on the Tube. On that basis I went out and spent £200 of real money. Mind you, I so use it on trains...!
