Mrs Hg, entering into aunt-like discourse with #2, trying to get him to say the word "Nottingham," neatly revealed the thirty-one-and-a-half years' difference between their worldviews.

Mrs Hg [brightly]: "#2, what's the name of the big town near where you live?"

#2 [puzzled]: "Erm..."

Mrs Hg [a professional teacher, she'll get it out of him]: "The big city, the place down the road from where you live...?"

#2 [wants to please, but has no idea]: "Uh..."

Mrs Hg [tries a different approach]: "You know, the place where you go to do your shopping?"

#2 [suddenly perky, knows the answer]: "The Co-op!"

The world seems such a small place these days, but he instantly made it feel much bigger.
