The M25 motorway, 6pm Friday evening. Anti-clockwise, outside lane. Fast.

I see the pebble flying through the air, straight towards my face. Fast.

My brain switches into instinctive self-preservation mode. Everything goes. Slow.

The people from whom I have learnt, whose work I have admired and respected.

Its brown, polished exterior looks like the tarnished case of a spent bullet.

My friends, whose generously shared company I have treasured so dearly.

It twists slightly, otherwise unwavering in its trajectory.

My family: the calm, solid foundation upon which I have built the labyrinthine castle of my life.

Will it penetrate the glass, I wonder?

My wife: cryptic alien being and beloved kindred spirit.

As it flies inevitably closer, I realise the exhilarating truth that I am a part of all who I have loved and all who have loved me.

I will not die.

Lovely.

All I could manage was "Ohh fuck, not again!" before trying to fight the 'duck' impulse and not send the car veering across three lanes of traffic at .. er.. 70 (honest guv!).

Does your wife mind being referred to in that manner?

See what I mean? Cryptic, alien, making no sense whatsoever. I haven't a clue what she's talking about.

"Cryptic, alien, making no sense whatsoever. I haven't a clue what she's talking about."

With a review like that, she really ought to be a blogger. :-)
